“One Sunday in 1995 I caught the last train home from a gig. At 9am the next morning I walked to the station to catch a train and discovered that the Kennett government had filled the pedestrian underpass with concrete. At the time I contacted the Victorian Transport Department and was told they felt the underpass was rarely used! Studies to re-open the underpass have come up with spectacular costs. Meanwhile, we’ve had one death and requests from train drivers for police patrols because of the amount of people crossing the tracks when the booms are down. During peak hour dozens of people are forced to wait for multiple trains to pass. This is unacceptable. I’m working towards making the Yarraville crossing one of the projects for the Level Crossing Removal Authority.”
